The call is one and repetitive: “Let’s save Venezuela.” This was the invitation to action made once again by the President in Charge of the country, Juan Guaidó, to Venezuelans because in his opinion “the country has been ready for a long time to recover democracy.” He asked Venezuelans to demand in the streets the presidential election that they owe us since 2018.

“Save Venezuela is an initiative to achieve free and fair presidential elections as soon as possible. Today I give the Venezuelans absolute certainty that we are going to defeat the dictatorship.”

This Tuesday, February 15th, at a press conference with national and international media, and accompanied by political leaders, deputies of the legitimate national Parliament, students, unions leaders and different sectors, President Guaidó insisted that together and in Unity is how Venezuela can be saved and it is how the tragedy and the crisis that every day takes innocent lives inside and outside the nation can be put to an end.

“Today Venezuela is a country in pain and in mourning for that one-year-old baby who left for Trinidad and Tobago fleeing from the dictatorship and was killed. That bullet pierced the soul of the Republic. What happened was not an accident, it was a murder against a 1-year-old child who did not represent any threat, Mr. Prime Minister (Keith Rowley).”

The President in charge of the country also informed that they will go to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights of the Organization of American States (OAS) for: one, demand a serious and impartial investigation to clarify the facts that led to the opening of fire on the boat, especially in relation to the use of force, the damage to the boat and the treatment received by the other passengers; two, to demand that a detailed explanation be offered about the current state of the victim’s mother, Mrs. Darielvis Sarabia; three, request that the IACHR take note of this tragic situation and, if it is considered pertinent, issue a public statement through a press release lamenting the death of the child Yaelvis Santoyo Sarabia; and four, urge that the content of this urgent appeal be officiated to the Office of the Rapporteur for Migrants and Refugees, the Country Rapporteur for Venezuela and the Special Mechanism for Venezuela (MESEVE).

“The Prime Minister (of Trinidad and Tobago) is indolent. We ask the Public Ministry of Trinidad and Tobago to open an investigation so that there is justice. Maduro is a historic accident and that is something that we Venezuelans are going to solve.”

President Guaidó also indicated that they will request protection for the mother of the murdered child, and for the 35 passengers of the boat shot by the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard.

Unity, a Fundamental Pillar

The President in Charge of Venezuela recalled that the immediate actions to be taken to put an end to the crisis revolve around the Unity of all factors, since without a doubt “together” is how change will be achieved.

“Together we are going to save Venezuela. The dictatorship is not going to defeat us. The call is that united and together we save Venezuela. To Venezuelans who sometimes feel tired, overwhelmed and even bored, I say that there is a solution, there is a country that we are going to recover and rebuild.”

He reiterated once again the willingness of the government in charge and the Democratic Alternative to achieve a comprehensive agreement with guarantees for everyone.

Among the actions to be carried out, he said that it is necessary to strengthen the Unity, exercise the majority, international pressure, re-launch the negotiation process in México and build guarantees for all sectors of the country.

“To unite is to come together around hope. A single date must be required, they owe us the presidential election since 2018 and the parliamentary election since 2020. We must seek guarantees, demand a date and press on the streets.”

He said that they know how to defeat the dictatorship and an example of this is that in 50 days we defeated them twice in Barinas.

He emphasized that the Unity, the Unitary Platform and the Democratic Alternative are one and that he represents Venezuela through the Presidency in Charge and the legitimate national Parliament where he was unanimously ratified as its president.

“We have faced the dictatorship embracing democracy and the Constitution. Since I was in the student movement I am in the fight for Venezuela and I did not need immunity or a post.”

Finally, he called for assemblies in all the municipalities of the country next Saturday, February 19th, he asked to be aware of the official information channels for more details of the activity.
